āShā like Cairoā: Torino fans leave manure outside training ground in protest at owner
Fans of Torino left manure outside the Serie A clubās training ground under a banner criticising the owner following a poor run of results, which has left them three points above the relegation zone.
Torinoās 3-0 loss to Genoa on Sunday, in which they had midfielder Emirhan Ilkhan sent off before half time, was their seventh of the calendar year. A day after the defeat, the club announced they had sacked head coach Marco Baroni, replacing him with Roberto DāAversa, having only appointed the Italian in June.
This followed the appointment of former Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi in December after Davide Vagnati left the role following a five-year spell at the club.
Videos emerged on Tuesday of fans appearing to shovel manure onto the doorstep of the training ground, under a banner criticising the club president and owner, media mogul Urbano Cairo, which read āmerde come Cairoā (āshā like Cairoā).
Cairo, a 68-year-old businessman, acquired the Serie A side in 2005 after a period of financial and on-pitch difficulty which Torinoās website refers to as āthe hard yearsā. Supporters of the Italian club have long wanted him out, however, believing he doesnāt have sufficient ambition.
Torino finished 11th in Italyās top tier in the 2024-25 term, and ninth the campaign before under former Southampton boss Ivan Juric. This season, however, they have lost 13 of their 26 games, winning just seven.
